About Me

My name is Phillip Guyton Jr. and I’m a photographer from Florence, SC. Photography isn’t all I do but it is what I am passionate about. I’m always looking for new opportunities to flex my photographic muscles. There is a whole photographic world out there to explore and I’m eager to see it! This is my creative outlet. I am a horrible painter and I can’t play an instrument (except cowbell maybe? :) ) so this is what I do to express myself. I got my first digital camera as a Christmas gift in 2004. It was a little Sony Cybershot 2.1 Megapixels I think. In 2006 I got my first SLR, a Canon XTi and that’s when I fell in love with photography. There is just something magical about it how it lets you see things you didn’t see and freeze that one moment forever. Your goal with photography is to capture a moment and protect it. Last Year I upgraded to a 7D and it really feels like the perfect camera. In April 2008 I assisted in shooting a wedding for the first time, a very fun experience. Since then I’ve shot a number of them, as the 2nd shooter, as the lead with a assistant, and a few all on my own. I really love weddings b/c they are all so different; it’s a unique experience every time. It’s also wonderful when you do you do a good job and get to see your work bringing joy to others. I’m always learning. I’m totally addicted to the subject matter. I listen to a number of podcasts (DPE, Photofocus, GoingPro, Twip are my favorites) weekly. I watch webinars, attended seminars. I read tons of photography books (kelby training and lynda training are both fabulous resources for getting started with photography, Lightroom, and Photoshop); the wealth of information out there is amazing. I try to practice daily; a camera is only useful if you use it and like anything doing is the best teacher.
